GRAVESTONE DEDICATION SERVICE TO BE HELD AT PILGRIMS REST CEMETERY AT WAYNESVILLE The Lawton-Gordon-Evans Brigade Chapter #2637 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy is sponsoring a gravestone dedication service at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery near Waynesville at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, February 7, 2010, and will be assisted by Capt. James Knox “Seaboard Guards” SCV Camp #2022 and Re-Enactors. Com. Tom Lavender is expected to emcee the program. The Confederate gravestones to be dedicated are those of William Thomas Bennett (1833-1907) who was in Company N, 26 Georgia Infantry, and Henry P. Grantham (1843-1914) who was in Company A, 29 Georgia Volunteer Infantry. William Thomas Bennett and his wife, the former Jerusha Cox, had the following children: Mary Ann (m. Matthew Strickland), Richard Gideon (m. Mary Jane Spivey), William Henry (m. Sarah Lee), Thomas J. (m. Rachel Amelia Popwell), Eliza E. (m. William Richmond ”Bill” Gibson), Nancy Jane (m. Roan Norman Strickland), Rhoda E. (m. Thomas E. Edgy), and Ella J. (m. Benjamin C. Popwell, Sr.), Henry P. Grantham (never married) was the son of Thomas James Grantham and his wife, the former Harriett Spell who lived to be 104. His siblings were: Elizabeth, William, Nancy Ann, Mary, Seletha Ann, Francis Marie “Buddy” (m. Susan Geiger), Rachel, James Middleton (m. Mary Louvinia Ryals), Thomas M., and Harriett. According to a Wayne County Census, Henry had a ward shown as Isabel Joiner. Refreshments will be served immediately after the dedication. Please bring a chair. We ask the descendants to please contact families living away so that they will also be able to attend this historic event. Everyone is invited to attend. Directions to Pilgrims Rest Cemetery: From the direction of Hwy. 82 and Old Waynesville Rd. (CR 168S), go by the Waynesville Elementary School, go south 0.5 mile. Stay to the right on the Old Waynesville Rd. and proceed 0.9 mile. Turn right, staying on Old Waynesville Rd. and go 0.3 mile. Cemetery is on the right.
