The state legislature has asked the college system to eliminate over $300 M from the budget. My college, UGA, would bear a $60 M budget cut as a result, on top of the $40 M we've already had to cut. According to a proposed plan that was put out, this would result in not only layoffs, but many programs closing, including the UGA radio station, the State botanical gardens, and all 4-H programs. Every other college in Georgia would have to make major cuts as well.
Our university president has states his opposition to the proposed cuts. I'm putting this here to get to word out. The student government associations of many colleges are planning a rally on the 15th to oppose the legislator's actions.
http://www.usg.edu/fiscal_affairs/documents/executive_summary.pdf Here's an short overview of the cuts. It includes every college in Georgia, including the colleges in Waycross and Brunswick.
I also have a link to the more indepth version if anyone is interested.
