Free Indoor  Adult Cat

Posted on July 19 2010, 11:57 pm by connie
Our adult cat needs a new home.  We have had her for about three  years...she has been spade, declawed, and is in excellent health.  She has never been outside and is completely litter box trained. The cat does not need to be in a home with other animals but would make a good companion for an older person or a family without small children. She is not a nuisance cat and does not jump on counters or food tables...she is a very quiet animal and is not messy at all.   She cannot be put outside as she has been declawed and cannot defend herself.

We have a breeze litter box system that will go with her to a new home.  If you are interested, please call us at 458-3717.

Can this be true about "Hate Speech?"

Posted on July 10 2010, 7:30 pm by rustyseagull
Original source

There Is No Such Thing as ‘Hate Speech’
February 24, 2006

by Sean Clark

Yes, that is correct. “Hate speech” is not a category of speech recognized under current constitutional law. It is merely a convenient way to pigeonhole speech that some people find offensive. But what is very troubling is when people begin to treat “hate speech” as unprotected speech. For example, a student leader at Penn State, a university which was recently sued for its unconstitutionally vague and overbroad speech codes, made the following comment featured in a prominent article in the student newspaper The Daily Collegian:

“We support any and all university policies that prohibit intolerant actions against any student on this campus," said Watson, adding that hate speech was not protected by the constitution.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a statement like this has been made. This belief has become somewhat pervasive, especially on college campuses, making it high time to put this fundamentally false and dangerous belief to rest.

There is no constitutional exception for so-called hate speech. The First Amendment fully protects speech that some may find offensive, unpopular, or even racist. The First Amendment allows you to wear a jacket that says “F the Draft” in a public building (see Cohen v. California, 403 U.S. 15), yell “We’ll take the f'ing street later!” during a protest (see Hess v. Indiana, 414 U.S. 105), burn the American flag in protest (Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 and United States v. Eichman, 496 U.S. 310), and even give a racially charged speech to a restless crowd (see Terminello v. Chicago, 337 U.S. 1). You can even, consistent with the First Amendment, call for the overthrow of the United States government (see Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444). This is not a recent development in constitutional law—these cases date back to 1949.

The U.S. Supreme Court stated the general rule regarding protected speech quite well in Texas v. Johnson, when it held:

The government may not prohibit the verbal or nonverbal expression of an idea merely because society finds the idea offensive or disagreeable.

Federal courts have consistently followed this holding when applying the First Amendment to public universities. While invalidating sanctions placed on a fraternity for holding an “ugly woman contest,” a federal district court in Iota Xi Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity v. George Mason University, 993 F.2d 386, held:

The First Amendment does not recognize exceptions for bigotry, racism, and religious intolerance or ideas or matters some may deem trivial, vulgar or profane.

Furthermore, federal courts have consistently used this concept in striking down college speech codes that regulate offensive or unpopular language (for examples, see Doe v. University of Michigan, 721 F. Supp. 852, UWM Post, Inc., v. Board of Regents of University of Wisc., 774 F. Supp. 1163, and Bair v. Shippensburg Univ., 280 F. Supp. 2d 357). The law is so consistent that not one college speech code challenged in federal court has ever been left standing.

As you can see, it is settled law that public universities, in order to be consistent with the First Amendment, cannot regulate or suppress speech based upon its content, even when it is offensive, vulgar, profane, or unpopular. A university, especially one run with our tax dollars, should be a marketplace of ideas where open and vigorous discourse is encouraged and not suppressed by crafty speech codes and the threat of disciplinary sanctions.

Your Social Security

Posted on July 02 2010, 10:21 am by kplumley
> Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it.  Be sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts!!!

> Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the message was removed.

> Our Social Security
>
> Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social

> Incomes into the Program,
>
> Now 7.65%
> on the first $90,000

> 4.) That the money the participants put into the

> general operating fund, and therefore, would
> only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program.

> Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and Spent.
>
> 5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.
>
> Under Clinton & Gore
> Up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed
>
> Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are

drumming circle

Posted on June 28 2010, 6:40 pm by cougarcreations
I'm putting out an inquiry to see if anyone would be interested in going to a drumming circle.  These would be held on a Saturday evening closest to the full moon.
If you are, and you do not have a drum, I can get them ordered, or hand percussion instruments like maraccos, shakers, bells, etc.
The location would be in western Brantley, maybe in my yard or Laura Walker Park.
email me if you want:  julie@cougarcreations.net
Drumming can help in healing, connection with God (or Spirit), connect with friends (new and old).  It creates a one-ness with all.  An awesome experience...
Look forward to hearing from you.
Julie :;):

Posted on May 23 2010, 10:48 pm by Mblack804
May 27th & 28th we have the River City Animal Hospital coming to Waycross, to Tractor Supply. It is only from $45 for a cat and $65 for a dog for a spay or neuter, incl. rabies shot. Really pleased they are coming to Waycross! Hopefully it will help reduce the stray animal population. 904-733-8123 is the number people can call to book in their pet.

Custom made Dog Houses

Posted on May 23 2010, 4:08 pm by ruzzter
We can build any size dog house, even goat houses, from the smallest dog such as  a yorkie, to a large dog like a Lab or bull-dog.  The cost will be the amount of materials needed, and labor.  The two that we just got rid of were about 10 years old, and in very good condition, and if they had been painted more often, would have been in excellent condition!!   We can use plywood, and shingles, or osb boards and shingles.  If interested, call 778-6047.  Thanks.   :D

Blue and Gold locked down try brantleysoapbox.com

Posted on May 22 2010, 1:02 pm by insider
I see the blue and gold is locked down.  Everybody remember that the brantley soapbox is still up at www.brantleysoapbox.com

It is always open and pretty much anything goes there.  The only rule the owner has is no vulgar language.
